Narek Hakhnazaryan, born into a family of musicians, began his music education in his native Yerevan, before continuing at the Moscow Conservatory and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He was also mentored by the renowned Mstislav Rostropovich, from whose Foundation Hakhnazaryan has received scholarships. His international breakthrough came in 2011, when he as a 22-year-old won the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition. Hakhnazaryan has performed with many of the most acclaimed world orchestras, such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Seoul Philharmonic, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic, the Mariinsky Theater Orhestra and the La Scala Theater Orchestra, establishing collaborations with conductors such as Gergiev, Järvi, Spivakov, Pletnev, Robertson, and others. Hakhnazaryan has given recitals in the world’s leading halls, such as  the Salle Pleyel in Paris, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. British music magazine The Strad described his playing as “dazzlingly brilliant” and the San Francisco Chronicle as “magnificent.” His current season includes a series of concerts at festivals in North America and performances with renowned orchestras around the world and in a trio with Sergei Dogadin and Daniil Trifonov. Hakhnazaryan plays a 1707 Joseph Guarneri cello.
