Tamara Obrovac, flutist, singer, composer, and lyricist, is one of the most significant and versatile personalities on the Croatian music scene, who thanks in particular to the influences of Istrian folk music and the dialect she uses to create her musical expression, has gained great popularity in recent years. Combining jazz with the influences of her homeland Istria, Tamara has developed a unique expression in which different musical forms and improvisations are naturally intertwined, which has attracted the attention of larger and larger audiences on the world stage, dominated by jazz and / or world music. She collaborates with top musicians in her two ensembles – the International Transhistria Quintet and her own Quartet. Suffused with spontaneity, inventive improvisation, freedom, humor, and the ability to communicate with the audience, her performances are specific in her usage of voice, with her unique blend and style of vocalizations functioning as an additional instrument. Tamara has realized ten compact-discs, on which she has authored both music and a number of lyrics. She has won eight Porin Awards, the Croatian annual music award and a World Music Award in 2004 from BBC Radio 3 in the European Music and Audience Award categories.
