Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO) – German National Youth Jazz Orchestra is the official youth jazz orchestra of the Federal Republic of Germany. For thirtyfive years, the German Music Council has been committed to this ensemble and to the promotion of young German jazz musicians. The orchestra was founded by Peter Herbolzheimer in 1988. It is widely acclaimed as a high-quality link between education and career, serving as an excellent talent “factory” for the next generation of talented jazz musicians. Such celebrated contemporary jazz musicians as Till Brönner, Roger Cicero, Julia Hülsmann, Tom Gaebel, Nils Wogram, Michael Wollny, and Nils Wülker started their careers in the orchestra. The BuJazzO project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth (BMFSFJ), the German Performers’ Copyright Society (GVL), Mercedes- Benz Group AG, and West German Broadcasting (WDR). Under the leadership of Niels Klein, the orchestra is currently presenting the results of the 4th BuJazzO Composition Competition, through its “Music of the Future” program. Namely, in 2022, young musicians and arrangers up to the age of thirty were invited to submit works for a jazz orchestra and/or vocal ensemble. The Orchestra will is presenting the selected works in the current 2023/24 concert season.
