Jakob Steinkellner started learning the accordion at the age of six, and at the age of fourteen passed the entrance exam for Classical Accordion studies at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, under Professor Alfred Melichar. At the same time, he started learning the diatonic accordion. In 2020, Jakob Steinkellner completed his master’s studies in Accordion Pedagogy and Concert Performance on the Accordion, and then specialist studies, focusing in “Making Music with People with Disabilities” and “Diatonic Harmonica.” He has given recitals in Austria, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, England, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Greece, Serbia, Ukraine, Peru, Canada, China, Tanzania, Vietnam, and Japan. As a teacher, Jakob Steinkellner has worked in Peru – at the National Conservatory of Music in Lima, the Music Academy in Ayacucho, and the Instituto Superior de Música in Cusco, as well as at McGill University in Montreal (Canada). He has held numerous master classes, most notably at the Carrefour Mondial de l’Accordéon festival in Quebec and in Austria, among others. Since 2022, Jakob Steinkellner has served as a professor at the University of Music and Theater in Munich, where he is the head of the Folk Music course.
