The panel discussion titled #Željena was prompted by the #Neželjena campaign on the abuse of prenatal tests and the problem of selective abortions, initiated by the Center for Women’s Rights, with the support of the McCann agencies in Podgorica and Belgrade. The executive director of the Center for Women’s Rights Maja Raičević, the creative director of the McCann Belgrade agency Jana Savić Rastovac, the gynecologist and geneticist Amira Fazlagić and Jelena Vukasović, program editor-in-chief at the Museums of Kotor, anti-fascist and feminist, will talk about the patriarchal system of values and gender discrimination in Montenegro and the wider Balkans.

Maja Raičević has been active in Montenegrin civil society for twenty years. She is currently the executive director of the NGO Center for Women’s Rights. As part  of the Center’s activities, she supports women who have survived gender-based violence and their access to justice. She has participated in the implementation of several key projects in the field of human rights monitoring in Montenegro. Maja Raičević conducts trainings on gender equality, human rights and violence against women for the civil sector, youth and competent institutions. She is the author of numerous reports and publications on the position of women. Maja Raičević has participated in the preparation of a number of national policies in the field of gender equality and violence against women in Montenegro.

Amira Fazlagić graduated in 1985, received her master’s degree in 1997, and defended her doctoral dissertation in 2005 at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Belgrade. She passed the specialist exam in Gynecology and Obstetrics in 1993, and she also completed specialist academic studies in Genetics at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. In 2009, Amira Fazlagić  was elected by the Senate of the European University to the position of Associate Professor of the Medical Academy of the US Medical School for the Gynecology and Obstetrics course in the field of the Clinical Surgical Branch of Medicine. She also served as a lecturer at doctoral studies for the course of Personalized Medicine and Pharmacogenomics at the Molecular Biology program of the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. Amira Fazlagić is the president of the National Association for the Improvement and Development of Regenerative Medicine. She has worked as the Deputy Director of the Center for the Study of Bioethics at the University of Belgrade, Secretary General of the UNESCO Chair of Bioethics for Europe, and the International Chair in Bioethics University Haifa, Israel. Amira  Fazlagić is a co-founder and has been a member of the board of directors of the Naša Aska Women’s Association since 2016 and is one of the founders of the Veličanstvene National Alliance.

Jelena Vukasović completed the Kotor Secondary School and graduated from the Department of Serbian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Philosophy in Nikšić. She worked as a native language teacher (2006–2008), producer of the Kotor Children’s Theater Festival (2008–2011), journalist and editor-in-chief of Radio Kotor (2008–2017) and Secretary for Culture, Sports and Social Activities of the Municipality of Kotor (2017–2019). Today, Jelena Vukasović is the program editor-in-chief at the Museums of Kotor. She is the co-author of the children’s book Kotorske Pričice o Nasljeđu (2022). Jelena Vukasović is a member of the Pozorište o Kotoru Community Theater, which from 2015 to 2017 prepared and performed the play KoTo(R) about Kotor directed by Petar Pejakovi over twenty times in Kotor, Montenegro and the region. Jelena Vukasović is an anti-fascist and a feminist.
