VESNA MAČIĆ, PhD: Climate Changes and New Species

DR VESNA MAČIĆ, PhD, completed primary and secondary school in Kotor and Biology studies at the Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad. At the University of Novi Sad, she first obtained her master's degree – in the TEMPUS Center, for Water Protection Department (2001), and then went on to defend her doctoral thesis (2010). Since 1997, Vesna Mačić has been working at the Institute of Marine Biology of the University of Montenegro. In 2016, she was elected as Senior Scientist for phytobenthos. As the only employee in this sector, she is studying marine algae and flowering plants, mapping habitats on the seabed – those that are protected and those threatened by invasive species – and working to establish protected areas in the sea, while addressing the problem of solid waste in the sea and other topical issues. Vesna Mačić has participated in the realization of over 50 national and international scientific projects and has attended numerous training and discussion sessions abroad. She has published more than 60 scientific papers. She speaks English and Italian and has been actively engaged in diving with autonomous equipment since 1998.
