EMIR KUSTURICA & NO SMOKING ORCHESTRA

ZEKO0244.JPG

EMIR KUSTURICA & The No Smoking Orchestra, nomads by nature, bearers of joy and symbols of freedom, belong to a significant phenomenon of the anti-globalist (musical) movement and stand out as unique paradox of the environment from which they have sprung. They are more famous and more recognized on the international scene than in their own country, whose repute they have been boosting across the globe, from Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Madrid, and Moscow to Buenos Aires, Tokyo, New York, Tel Aviv, Sao Paol,o and Sydney. Their first ten years performing the unza unza – a “disheveled” sound of rhythm guitar being played in the rapid two quarters rhythm of the Serbian kolo, as a Balkan version of rumba, bringing together the rock experience, the gypsy music sound, and the Šumadija two-quarters-rhythm with other “boundary” artistic concepts of the 20th century - are proof that even in times rife with a lack of understanding, there is still dance music with content that one cannot resist because “there are no two feet that can remain calm” while the Orchestra plays. Among their released compact discs are: Unza Unza Time (2013), Life Is a Miracle (2004), Live in Buenos Aires (2005), Time of the Gypsies (2007), The Best of (2009). and Corps diplomatique (2018).
