MARTIN GRUBINGER, Professor at the Zurich University of the Arts and one of the greatest multi-percussionists in the world, performs solo works, chamber music with a great variety of musical partners, including his own Percussive Planet Ensemble, and percussion concertos. He studied at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz and at the Mozarteum in his native Salzburg. Grubinger quickly garnered attention early in his career, having appeared at international competitions such as the World Marimbaphone Competition (Okaya, Japan) and the European Broadcasting Union Competition in Norway. He has collaborated with leading orchestras and is a regular guest of the most renown festivals in the world. He has recorded several albums for various labels. Amongst the growing number of works written for Grubinger are Avner Dorman’s Frozen in Time (2007), Friedrich Cerha’s Concerto (2008), Tan Dun’s Tears of Nature (2012) and Peter Eötvös’ Speaking Drums. His current season features concerts at the Leipzig Gewandhaus and collaborations with the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Symphony Orchestras of German Broadcasting – SWR Sinfonieorchester and WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, Kammerakademie Potsdam, the Strasbourg Symphony Orchestra, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Dresdner Philharmonie, and Wiener Symphonikern.
