Rudyard Kipling’s delightful story of how the elephant got his trunk is given a stunning new interpretation by the troupe of the Kyiv Municipal Puppet Theater. The theatrical adaptation by director Mykhailo Uryskyi and the creative scenery and African styled outfits by set designer Mykola Danko give a fresh, vibrant look to this classic story.  The performance settles down to focus on the Elephant’s Child with a satiable ”curiosity” about everything that he sees, hears, feels, smells, or touches. Such curiosity opens up new ideas, knowledge, and abilities, even though everyone tells him to stop, with a spanking each time. This production is a kind of mockery of society that is unable to make changes. Assertive people work toward growth while snobby people just want to dominate others.
